Teaching Philosophy

As a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music in Piano, my philosophy centers on fostering a lifelong love for music. I provide an individualized approach to each student's musical journey. I believe that learning to play the piano is an all-inclusive process that encompasses creative expression, critical thinking, and technical proficiency.
As a mentor, I tailor my teaching methods to the unique needs and aspirations of each student. I recognize that every individual possesses distinct learning styles, and I strive to create a nurturing and inclusive environment that accommodates diverse backgrounds and abilities. By understanding each student's strengths and challenges, I customize lessons to maximize their potential and instill confidence in their musical abilities.
Music is a powerful form of self-expression. I encourage my students to delve into the emotional and artistic aspects of their playing, fostering a connection between the technical skills they acquire and the emotions they wish to convey through their music. I encourage my students to play a wide array of musical genres, drawing inspiration from the sounds around them.
My educational goals emphasize the importance of becoming a well-rounded musician. Besides the fundamentals of performance, technique, and artistry, weekly lessons include theory, sight-reading, and aural skill development. I also emphasize the importance of collaborative piano and the establishment of a musical community within my studio. By organizing recitals, ensemble performances, and group activities, my long-term goal for my students is to continue to build a community.
Incorporating both musical and life skills, my teaching philosophy molds students into critical thinkers, advocates for the arts, and future contributors to their musical communities.
